Vanilla Van One

Citroen Jumper custom campervan conversion

Tomasz Kempa, Piotr Gnalicki

Vanilla Vans

2020

Vanilla Vans is a custom campervan conversion startup born from the pursuit of freedom, adventures, love of the outdoors and – good design. We turn commercial vehicles into all year round travelling machines that will not only take you on a great journey, but will feature beautifully designed thought through solutions.

Vanilla Vans is a custom campervan conversion startup.

It was established by Tomek Tempa and Piotrek Gnalicki, a duo who decided to use a wide spectrum of their previous experiences – ones gathered from travelling, through sports as well as these they came upon their professional path. They aimed at creating a real house on wheels, that can be used all year round. Vanilla Van One not only will surprise you with great functionality suited for active lifestyle, but also will please you with great interior design and natural materials.

Converting a commercial vehicle into a campervan is a complicated challenge – it requires expertise in different fields. Builders need to be 3D designers, carpenters, electricians or upholsterers just to name a few professions needed. What is more, there are certain law regulations that you need to comply with and very limited space that complicates the task even more. Nevertheless this project is a proof that creativity eventually wins, and Vanilla Van One users can embark on a new adventure!

A chair made of wood waste

A chair

Daria Lewandowska

Akademia Sztuk Pięknych w Gdańsku

2021

Inspiration to create the seat was solid ash wood and waste from its processing.

The creation process began with obtaining the appropriate quality wood. Then the individual elements according to the pattern were cut with a band saw and carefully finished. The structure of the furniture was created by joining the elements with an overlap. The seat and backrest were made of wood waste obtained during the processing of the furniture such as sawdust and ash dust. The common, ecological glue has become the binding binder.A chair made of wood waste is a semester project designed in Furniture Design Studio, Interior Design Faculty of the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk and manufactured under the roof of PROTO TYPY Design Studios.

Smętek

a flower pot

Katarzyna Cichosz

Wystawa „Glëna”

2021

„The world is spinning and Smętek is sitting there and feeling sad”.

The image on the pot is loosely based on the figure of the Kashubian devil Smętek (Smãtek), whom folk legends presented in various ways – sometimes as a malicious demon that puts people into hell, and sometimes as a torn embodiment of sadness. This little Smętek is a sluggish figure and, well, sad! After planting the plants in a pot, it only slowly grows over it, sometimes – when the soil is poured over – it sits inconsolably in the water. A flower pot "Smętek" is a part of the "Glëna" exhibition.

Kashub's hand

Piotr Paluch

Wystawa „Glëna”

2021

Kashub's hand is bigger, stronger and worn out.

It is a reinterpretation of the hand of Fatima – the Middle Eastern theme of an open hand symbolizing "caring power". However, this hand has different characteristics and properties. It can keep tomatoes straight from the field or berries from the Kashubian forest. A platter "Kashub’s hand" is a part of the "Glëna" exhibition.

Wystawa „Glëna”

2021

Close your eyes. What do you see when you think about Kashubia?

A pine forest, litter mixed with sand, a gravel road, a small brick house with a barn. The heart of the house is a kitchen heated by a tiled stove. There are embroidered curtains in the windows, and the rays of the August sun pour through the open door. During the day, concerts of bird courtship and the knocking of woodpeckers, and at night, the roar of an owl, sometimes a wolf howls. "Tiles” are  part of the "Glëna" exhibition.

The bark of beech trees takes the shape of the eyes.

While exploring Kashubian forests, you can have an impression of being watched. The bark of beech trees often takes the shape of eyes where branches once grew. It is a type of birthmark, a scar. This creates a magical and unique atmosphere of the forest scenery. Eye contact with this vessel creates a new quality and specific bond. A vase "Forest eyes” is a part of the "Glëna" exhibition.

a set of dishes

Maciej Furtok

2021

"This is where the real essence of the flavor is collected".

A set of dishes inspired by a Silesian dumpling, consists of four plates, a bowl and a sauceboat. Due to its rounded form, the set is to refer to the traditional shape of Silesian dumplings. The recess in the plate performs the same function as the characteristic hole in the dumpling, in which the sauce is collected – "this is where the real essence of the flavor is collected." Silesian dumplings are served at Sunday dinners with beef roulade, red cabbage and compote. A set of dishes ”Silesian Dumpling” was produced under the roof of PROTO TYPY Design Studios.

A tea pot

Weronika Malliou

2021

"The very physical process of drinking tea, the search for a huigan, makes us turn to our inner self. We reflect as the drink spills onto the tongue, runs down the throat and returns as a flavor." – Lisa See

In many cultures, drinking tea is an event that connects generations, an almost mystical experience, the contemplation of delicate leaves, brewed in a unique way, in a specially designed vessel. The process of brewing tea takes on the importance of a rite, allows for the inner silence of the user, and is also a pretext for social meetings. In the presented design, the strainer located in the center of the vessel remains in equilibrium at every possible position of the jug, i.e. during the pouring movement. Thus, it brings to mind the harmony and ritual character of tea drinking. A tea pot was produced under the roof of PROTO TYPY Design Studios.

Disenchantment

a jug

Julia Łaskarzewska

2021

Replacing the glass lid disenchants the jar hidden in the pantries and turns it into a dish worth serving on the table.

To turn the can into a jug, unfasten the original lid and remove it from the wire rim, then put the lid with the spout in it and replace the gasket. The place for the handle is just below the clasp mechanism. The set consists of a ceramic lid with a spout and a wire rim, which, fastened with a stoneware bead, becomes the handle of a jar turned into a jug. A jug ”Disenchantment” was produced under the roof of PROTO TYPY Design Studios.

Utensils with unique patterns

Aleksandra Szpunar

2022

A fairy-tale world of patterns.

Ola Szpunar is a graduate of the Faculty of Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk, who has associated her professional life with illustration. Interest in working with clay appeared a few years ago during classes in an open ceramics studio. Over time, it turned into the activity of the ceramic project "Clai". Under this banner, delicate vessels decorated with characteristic, hand-painted patterns are created. The works are extremely subtle and cute.

During her residency, Ola developed her collection of utility utensils. She uses the benefits of PROTO TYPY Design Studios and for her projects she uses 3D printing, pouring forms, glazing and ceramic firing.

Precise geometry background for plants.

Kasia Przybył is a graduate of the Faculty of Interior Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk, who has associated her professional life with furniture design.
