Agnieszka Bar

curator

She was born and raised in the Sudetes, in a region with rich glass-making traditions. Since she discovered glass as a multidimensional medium in 1997, she tells stories full of meanings, communicates important values, comments and questions, she is closer to herself and people.

The designer was educated at the Academy of Fine Arts. Eugeniusz Geppert in Wrocław, where she obtained a diploma in the field of Design: Glass Design (2007). She studied applied arts at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava (2006) and at the Technic University in Liberec (2004). She completed apprenticeships at Huta Szkła Krosno and the now defunct Huta Szkła in Tarnów. She is fascinated by the processes of forming hot glass matter, natural phenomena and human nature. He creates a personal brand known for sensual and functional glass realizations, inviting to feeling and experiencing matter, and to reflection. She designs short series of dishes and unique objects with subtle patterns. I implement experimental projects in cooperation with craftsmen and glass centers in Poland and abroad. She discovers new perspectives in her travels. Currently, he is preparing a doctorate at the Faculty of Ceramics and Glass at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław, where he has been conducting research and educational projects since 2011, co-creating the educational program of the Laboratory of Applied Glass Design of prof. Kazimierz Pawlak. She is a scholarship holder of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education for a young outstanding scientist and a laureate of the Mazda Design Award 2019.

The intention of Bar's works is that objects, through their apparently silent presence, build a new dimension of relations, initiate new dynamics between the surroundings and objects. After all, it tries to let objects help us to breathe, to stay in a nourishing state of contemplation. In his works, he focuses on the timelessness of objects, wanting them to serve us in the continuous cycle of life and death.
