The New Generation

Can tenderness and care help us design a new beginning? The New Generation exhibits the best and most appealing projects designed by students from seven art universities. As I was selecting the pieces for the exhibition, I kept asking myself questions: What is good for us? What will help us find the balance we need? What will nourish us and give us strength? What future scenarios emerge from the proposals of the young generation?

Young designers have been looking for the ways of bridging the gap between the individual and the communal. As tender storytellers, mediators, and integrators of feelings, memories, places, and relations, they have been weaving the story of the world, becoming the center of the net.

What we need is re-education. A change that starts with our own body, our own spirit – us, humans, tender narrators. Let’s turn to the microscale, the human scale, the scale of the neighborhood, the scale of the region. Let’s focus on the scale of the cell – the cell of the human, the animal, the plant, and the fungus. Tenderness protects. From the exploitation of the body and the exploitation of natural resources. From excess.

The New Generation exhibits the best and most appealing projects designed by students from seven universities: the School of Form at SWPS University, Koszalin University of Technology, Bydgoszcz University of Science and Technology, the Academy of Art in Szczecin, the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk, the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków and Sopot Academy of Applied Sciences.

Milk & Bread

Fermentation is key! A healthy person’s body is home to around 2 kilograms of microorganisms. That’s why we need to keep our microflora balanced, which is now easier than ever with fermented, artisanal products. On top of that, cooking and eating brings people together, builds communities and fosters connections.

MELU

What we need more today than ever before is the sense of softness and closeness. Touching and being touched are fundamental human activities that reflect our need to feel emotions, experience pleasure, and seek comfort.

Pillove

Pillow facilitating sexual activity in older people

Przemysław Sokół

School of Form Uniwersytetu SWPS

2021

Design can be used to break taboos. Sexual activity of the elderly has been a taboo topic for far too long and unjustifiably so. After all, being sexually active has a positive impact on a person’s physical and mental wellbeing. The pillow supports the lower back by lifting up the hips slightly, which in turn improves the comfort of sexual intercourse. The project has been consulted with selected elderly women and doctors. Perfect for individuals of all ages. Will you give it a go?

A tool to measure pain in children

Therapeutic tool designed to determine the intensity of unpleasantness and pain experienced by children

Marta Kaiser

Akademia Sztuk Pięknych w Gdańsku

The light structure of this object invites interaction and makes it possible to get the information we need.
